RTO Tip – Our changing lives, does it impact on your RTO?

Online Training On iPadA reflection of the life we currently have.

The gadgets we have available to us is enormous. There are now so many choices to connect to the internet, iPad, Tablets, TV, computers and smart phones. The landscape is changing so fast, I am half expecting something new to be out before I get to post this! Apologies if I missed it. In my case we use iPad or mobile to look up anything that we are not certain about. Be that weather, fire danger, or birds flying past. Now more than ever we are learning all the time; on weekends, at night, just before we go to bed, or (as one expert advised) in the bathroom.

On the weekend I was lying on the coach outside (enjoying the cooler weather) reading my latest novel and looked up to see a bee just above my head. It was making  a nest, or rather, lining a wind chime with pollen. Rather than staying here and ignoring it, I grabbed the iPad and searched to find out which type of bee it was.

Learning is changing, it no longer needs to be just a lecture. It can be online, in the workplace or lying on the couch. The advances in social media, search engine optimisation and cloud services will give RTOs more power to provide a quality service than ever before.

Recently I worked with a client who was working with remote aboriginal workers. We were trying to work out a better way of getting them involved with the subject matter. The result of our brain storming came up with 4  iPads to share amongst the students. They would use them to gain evidence, and create something worthwhile and fun relating to the evidence requirements. The devices can be used to provide access to e-learning. They can be used to take orders at restaurants, or used by assessors to observe and record, competence.

You can no longer remain doing what you have always done. The technology that is available now is just waiting for you to use it in your RTO.

You need to ask your clients the question if the way you provide the learning is working for them. Sometimes it takes  someone new to come into your office and to review what you are doing; it could just be for a day to provide that feedback. Call Merinda today to see how F4 Solutions could assist you with your learning solution.
