ASQA have recently produced a checklist for the consumer to view and be informed when they are making a decision about using a particular training provider. So why have ASQA chosen to produce this document?
I suspect (only my belief) is they have had many calls from consumers asking about information and this fact sheet is in responses to those questions. This information is already on various government websites, however it is also good to have it all together in the one sheet.
A bonus for the RTOs is you can arm yourself with the information the students may ask. You also can point any potential students to the checklist so they feel comfortable using you.
The fact sheet states that the consumer should be asking, or obtaining, information before they enter into an agreement; and it allows check boxes to be ticked.
True they should and as an RTO you should be providing that information readily, either on your website, in an information pack emailed or manually delivered.
There are tips on where to find resources, some very useful links.
Whilst I agree the information is useful, I also believe it needs more information. For example where is anything to do with RPL, or the online learning – does it have questions about support for the learner?
So, read the fact sheet and take from it what you need to have ready to assist your learners to make an informed choice.
