Journey of self-discovery from your RTO Consultant

So often I talk to clients who have an RTO and they say they are so happy they commenced the business. And they go on to say that they have learnt so much about themselves, their family and their friends along the way. They have often feel they have undertaken a journey of self-discovery! I can relate to this, it is what I would call my journey of self-discovery.

The internet shows that self-discovery is as follows:

“whereby a person attempts to determine how they feel, personally, about spiritual issues or priorities, rather than following the opinions of family, friends, neighbourhood or peer pressure.”

It wasn’t that I was looking for a journey, I wasn’t. I was actually ignorant towards my true self. Ignorant because I really didn’t think it was important for me to know.

Just to put you in the picture, I commenced my RTO Consulting business in 2008 and it has been an evolving journey. The business of RTO compliance is something I am very passionate about, so for me it is easy to have this business. Working with people and solving their compliance issues is awesome. The results speak for themselves, I love receiving those emails or phone calls where a client has passed audit. they are so happy, and I am too. However I also am a passionate trainer, which is where I started my journey, some years previous (too many to think about).

Every so often during the year I reflect on where I have come, where I am now and where I am going. And at these times I remember I miss my training, and perhaps I should be doing more of this.

In 2013 I realised through some work I had being doing with my horses, that I wanted to support people, specifically teams, to show them what I have learnt my very amazing horses. This journey is big enough to be another blog post, which I might indulge in at some point, however for now I wish to share about my journey of self-discovery. (Yes I now have a business where I work with teams and my horses – providing the teams with skills in communication, working more productively together and allowing them to see what is really happening within the team)

The training I undertook to shift my focus into the Team building work was amazing. It shifted my focus from the business to more about me. This journey of self-discovery was not what was planned, and was not always an easy road, it included fear, confusion, misunderstanding, doubt and literally re-visiting choices I have made in my life. The training allowed me to consider more about what is happening for me right now, and how I can change that experience, if I so choose. The horses help and they support me daily, along with my clients. They support me to release resistant thoughts, focus on intentions, and what is happening for me right now. Being present.  They are amazing.

The journey has made me consider the RTO consulting business and the people in my life.

It has seen me change the course of my life and follow my true passion and purpose (The team training as well as RTO compliance). I have also started to set intentions and no longer have expectations from others. I look within for answers, or ask my horses.  Sure, I’ve had times where I have perhaps headed down a path that was a dead-end, and I have no doubt I will have many more but, I’m not giving up.

What I know for sure is that the journey is worth taking. I am becoming calmer, more aware and more tolerant. I am learning how to pay attention to my feelings and understand myself better, which allows me to focus better on my clients and their needs.

I know for sure that the effects of self-discovery includes for me daily happiness, fulfilment and clarity.

So why did tell you about this journey – well I wanted to share, and perhaps you too can take time out to learn about yourself. To stop being your own worst enemy, to stop hiding emotions, or an inner voice and feelings. To start listening to them and allowing yourself to feel whatever is it you feel. The freedom you will feel from this immeasurable. This I promise you!
