Are you really managing the stress of your RTO team?

Running your own RTO team is extremely rewarding. It also can be stressful being the boss, marketing the businesses and making sure everyone is working as a team. Your mental toughness grows daily as it responds to multiple and sometimes conflicting pressures. We work hard to keep our clients happy, and building the business, yet sometimes, it gets to you, and you wonder why you went into your own business at.

I know myself I love having my own business, love the team and love being able to be flexible in my life. Don’t get me wrong, there are hours when I wonder what I was thinking when I left the safety of an employer. Then something appears in front of me and I know why I do what I do. Over the years I have learned that there are certain balances I agree to myself that I must make, these support me on my journey, and allow me to have the business that I love. I wanted to share with you, some of these techniques because maybe they will support you too.

These two areas are what I needed to increase to support me on my journey to developing and strengthening my mental toughness for running my own business:

  1. Learn techniques for handling pressure

Pressure comes to all of us, whether we are in business, being a team  member or doing it alone. The key is accepting that it is inevitable so you can then develop skills for handling the pressure. I used to take the pressure and let everyone know about it. Then it dawned on me that it didn’t need to be like that.

I have learned to undertake regular meditation to release the pressure. I used to do this many moons ago, I even went to sit with a Swami for many months, but having my own business made me forget the art. I now mediate daily, it enables me to reduce my stress and focus on the task at hand.

Some other tips I use are:

  • Not over thinking things, and changing a negative thought to a positive one.
  • Trying to not be judgemental.
  • Practising relaxation techniques such as breathing, or grounding; this helps in many situations even if you are about to enter a room.
  • Remember that some things can’t be controlled and allowing that to be.
  1. Having self-belief

Self-belief is an essential element in anything you undertake. It doesn’t mean you are going around telling everyone how great you are, in fact it probably means the opposite. Self-belief is seen in the world’s best performers in business, sports and activities. It is the ability to set and achieve goals, take risks, control fear and learn from mistakes.

I live with a wonderful guy (my husband) who is the current and past National Champion at the sport he loves, he has won State Champion twice, and won so many other areas in his sport. He is a champion – but do you know it if you meet him? No. (only if I brag about him) He doesn’t brag, he doesn’t push his weight around. He has total self-belief in his ability, and his sport. He plans it, he works on it and he concentrates on what he is doing at the time, he meditates, and he gets it right.

Consider the reasons you have risen to where you are in life, the achievements you have done, write them down, and believe in yourself.

Life in the dynamic and unpredictable and that is what make having your own RTO business worthwhile.

Enjoy.
