RTO New Standards – tips on what to review

Check you have training and assessment material specific to each client/site.

It is important to know that you have resources available for each delivery method you use within your RTO. These resources need to be accessible to the learner. This requirement does not stagnate and as your RTO progresses on its journey in keeping up with client demands you must be mindful of regularly assessing your resources and staff in order to be sure you have the tools and skills to provide quality training.

Once you know that you have the resources, make sure you validate them, to ensure they meet the Training Package requirements, and that the training content reflects current industry practice.

Review your Policies and procedures

Your policies and procedures are the backbone of your RTO; the systems that tell everyone how your RTO operates and the processes are done. Sadly so often though, I see policies that were written for audit, and then filed. Filed somewhere dark, and dirty and somewhere that no man, or woman, wishes to tread again! They are not read, or even followed. The new standards provide you with an excellent opportunity to review what systems you currently have in place. Remember if you are not doing what your procedure states then you are at risk of making yourself non-complaint. You need to do what you say you will do. Use the standards to guide you through the requirements, and work with what happens in your RTO. You might find there are some continuous improvement items to action.

I would love to hear how you have made changes. Please place in the comments below.
